I am fresh to Digital Home . Awesome site
This is about the best topic to continue with the addition of my thread .
Here is my dilema .
I live in an area where there are no installers so I cant rent .
Bell has contracted the installations to 3rd party and nobody offers installations this far North .
They are willing to pay me $99.00 if I can prove someone other than myself installs the system ??? AKA local Joe installer .We dont have a local JOE installer but I will get buddy to send them a bill for the install hehehe ?
After hundreds of hours on the telephone speaking with TV reps at Bell , they are sending me a dish with the SW44 by mail .
I plan to purchase as a new customer to bell ................
the HDpvr 9241 at $499 which works out to $299 with program rebates after 8 months .
The HD PVR ready 6131 at $199.00 which works out to $99.00 with program rebates after 8 months .
Can I purchase a second hand 9241 and still get the rebates ?
|Some of the second hand receivers I see listed ...Ebay and Kijji have the smart cards removed ?
How do I swindle these guys into getting a good deal ?
They are fairly firm on their prices
The only reason I am swapping over from Shaw cable and internet is the fact that they have just introduced fiber optic internet to the area and I am already a telephone customer with them . This gives me the advantage of bundling all 3 services together . Bundling saves me about $500 per year in comparison to what I am paying now .
I am sure someone has been down this road before
Any assistance would be appreciated

Basically, no. You can sign up with self installation and a $50 fee. For that you don't have to sign a contract.

Receivers with the smart cards removed are worth $0. It's a big hassle to get a new smart card from Bell and chances are the receivers have been hacked. That makes them worthless since they often don't work and Bell will not fix them. Only buy a known working Bell receiver from a known source that will verify that it works, has never been hacked and there is no balance owing. There are a lot of useless receivers floating around eBay. Read this thread before buying.

Your best bet is the 9241 deal from Bell. You will not get rebates on two receivers. If you can wait, 6131 receivers often go on sale at one of the big box chains.
