It will be the same as when Bush sent NG to the border. They will be "support and maintenance and observation" roles to free up border patrol officers to go out and stand around.

All we need is another incident like this only with unarmed troops being shot for things to go to hell in a hand basket.

interestingly more illegal immigrants have been deported under obama than any other president yet not a word from the haters..

I'd love to see that source. Certainly that number doesn't include his own aunt.

I see where "Deportations from the United States increased by more than 60 percent from 2003 to 2008, with Mexicans accounting for nearly two-thirds of those deported." under Bush, but I can't seem to locate anything for Obama.

The troops will be mobilized to help little old hispanic ladies through the trails and to hand out bottled water and directions to the nearest welfare office.

He needs to send 10x that. This was purely political. No intention of truly securing hte borders.

1,200 troops? That's like a 500lb women saying she'll eat one less cookie. It sounds good for the press and idiots but it really won't do anything.

they won't have police power so its useless. Obama wants to stop the drugs not the illegals.

If Obama wanted to create jobs he should just pay $50 for every captured illegal, there would 10 of them left in the entire country by Friday.

Now that is a stimulus plan.

so as more come across, more get caught and more get sent back.

yea, that's common sense.

It's a start. Sure there are 1952 miles of border fence between the US and Mexico, and with none of those troops going into a support role (providing food and water etc) and doing 3 shifts, that only means there will be one soldier every 4.88 miles ... it's still better than he's done before.

Certainly not the Obama sackriders who think this is more than just an "election year stunt".
