Can i get verizon and att to increase my signal?

at my girlfriends house i can barely get any bars and i have att and she has verizon and she gets the same thing. Can we call att/verizon and ask them to increase the signal?
 
If you both have the same issues, then it has to do with the house- certain building materials do not allow cell signal to pass through them very easily.. Or the house could be located in an area that does not get good cell signal from any carrier
